Windows 8.1 Might Staunch the Wound Caused by Windows 8, Analyst Believes

Windows 8.1 Preview was launched on June 26

Microsoft has improved Windows 8 with the recently released 8.1 update, but the company might still experience difficulties when it comes to convincing users to embrace the OS.

That’s what Jeremy Davies, CEO at channel analyst Context, told The Channel. Davies believes that Windows 8.1 has what it takes to tackle the issues caused by the main operating system, but the way it sells also depends on the economy.

"An OS launch no longer creates a wave of new purchases. Windows 8.1 may staunch the wound, correct past mistakes but it will not wipe out the impact of the economy or the fact that people want tablets and smartphones,” he was quoted as saying.

Microsoft, on the other hand, thinks otherwise. CEO Steve Ballmer said during the BUILD developer conference that Windows 8.1 was designed to be more user-friendly, hence the return of the Start button.
